Body Speech Mind Therapy

Body Speech Mind Therapy Logo

Body Speech Mind Therapy is a convergence of therapeutic skills from the areas of counselling/psychotherapy as well as speech-language therapy, and body work.  In my approach I work with speech in speech-language therapy and mind in counselling therapy and mindfulness. I also incorporate body exercises to achieve relaxation as well as invigoration.

Holding master’s degrees in speech-language pathology and counselling therapy, I offer services from both disciplines and where both skills and areas of expertise are useful together, for example in stuttering therapy and play therapy.
Over the course of my career, I have lived in three countries, and two Master’s Degrees – in speech-language therapy and counselling therapy. Currently, I am working on my third Master’s in dyslexia research. I became a mindfulness practitioner in 1986, and an authorized meditation instructor in 2007.

I was trained as a speech-language pathologist in Aachen, Germany, and went on to do my Master’s Degree in Human Communication at City University, London, England. After working for a few years in community health centres in London, I became a specialist in the field of childhood and adult stuttering. I had the opportunity to work for and get trained by the Michael Palin Centre for stammering children. I received the Lidcombe Program training, and did extensive training with Carolyn Cheesman at the City Lit (adult education centre) in London.

I had supervision and training in play therapy during my Master’s in counselling at Acadia and during my four months practicum.

I am located in the West End of Halifax, close to Flinn Park and the Halifax Shopping Centre.

Beginning in the fall of 2013, accent modification training is being provided at the School of Human Communication Disorders, Dalhousie University. Family Speech & Language Services

Family Speech and Language Services offer quality communication intervention with a family and/or community centered approach. Our clinicians bring to the clinic a wealth and variety of experiences, and strive to work in a team approach with the client, the family and other professionals who may be involved. Most private health plans provide coverage for speech and language therapy. The first step is booking an initial consultation which allows the clinician to meet the client and family and discuss whether assessment is warranted by skills. This meeting is free of charge and usually lasts a half hour. Our clinic is new and clean, in a convenient location with free onsite parking. Our available appointment times are flexible, including evenings and weekends, and our rates are competitive.
